This morning we shared a wonderful book, "Meerkat Mail," to help us learn about postcards so that we could write our own! You should be getting some 'surprises' in the mail by early next week! After recess we finished our round of literacy centers and practiced our throwing and trapping skills over the net in phys ed. In the afternoon the students had French, and we got much faster at playing "I Have, Who Has" to visually recognize place value and numbers to 30! We finished our day learning a new poem, "I Love You More Than Applesauce." See below for a list of first names in our classroom. We are excited for tomorrow...Dress Like Your Future Self Day AND a Valentine's celebration! Also, please return your library book tomorrow if you would like to exchange it (we will be visiting the Learning Commons in the morning).

Please and Thank You / Volunteer Opportunities
- We would love to have morning reading volunteers to share books with students one-on-one, from 8:30-9:00 any day that it works for you!
- Thank you SO much to the reading and literacy center volunteers who have been joining us. The extra support has been very helpful in making things run smoothly!
Valentine’s Celebration/Dress Like Your Future Self Day : Feb. 10th
We will be having a small celebration for Valentine’s Day on Feb. 10th in the afternoon. We would appreciate if a few parents could please volunteer to send in a couple of fruit trays and a sweet treat to be shared with everyone. If you would like to send something in then please let myself or Tara know. Thank you. The students will be bringing home a list of first names if needed -- thank you for being inclusive of all classmates.
This is also a fun school spirit day! Don't forget to dress up like your future self (you choose when in the future!) What do you want to be when you grow up? What do you think you will look like?
Feb. 18th - 100th Day of School Celebration:
I recognize (and apologize!) that February is a more request-heavy month, and sincerely appreciate your contributions! We will be concocting 100th Day Trail Mix on Thursday, February 18th. We ask that students please bring in a small-sized, non-nut snack item to contribute (roughly 2 or 3 cups should be fine), as well as an egg carton cut down to 10 cups (serving as a ten frame). Students will measure out ten pieces of ten different snacks to enjoy a trail mix of exactly 100! Thank you for your help. The students love to be math chefs!
Some ideas for ingredients include, but are not limited to:
- mini pretzels
- pumpkin seeds
- raisins
- dried cranberries or other dried fruits
- banana chips
- goldfish crackers
- shreddies
- corn bran
- dry roasted beans or peas
- puffed wheat
- corn nuts
- popcorn
- yogurt chips
- bagel crisps
Byblo’s Visit – Feb. 25th
This is for Grade ones and not kindergarten as stated on the calendar. We will be looking for donations of fillings like shredded lettuce, slices of/diced tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, meats/sausages, shredded cheese, jam, etc. We will be coming up with a more comprehensive list as we talk about healthy foods that can be put in a pita pocket. I do ask that we please do not bring in Nutella or peanut butter due to allergy precautions.
