This morning we edited the wacky mistakes in our message and practiced showing subtraction equations visually and as number sentences, to make 5. After literacy centers and guided reading, we acted out our Ou/Ow poem. In math we finished our equation practice using the "make ten" strategy to add multiple numbers, then began a word problem about Mrs. Bezugley buying cupcakes to apply this skill. In the afternoon the grade fours put on a beautiful Pink Shirt Day assembly, then we spent the rest of the afternoon on science. We learned about how our sense of sight works and did a fun experiment testing our visual memory. We learned about optical illusions, our eyes and brains playing tricks on us, and began making our own "thaumatrope" optical illusion toys!

Words of the Week
Each week we will focus on a set of high frequency words that we are using in our poems and morning message. Feel free to practice these and look for them in your own books! This week we are focusing on "ow" and "ou" (pinchy) pattern chunks.
now how around down about our out
Please and Thank You!
- Please return Fish Creek Park field trip forms for tomorrow in order to be able to go. Since we are spending a good part of the day outside on the 1st, please send students to school dressed for the weather with warm coats, boots, hats, mitts, and snow pants as needed.
- Thank you for returning school Library books for Wednesday (our scheduled weekly exchange time is Wednesday afternoon).
Volunteer Opportunities:
-We are still seeking 2 more volunteers to join us for a fun, educational, and outdoorsy day at the Fish Creek Environmental Learning Centre tomorrow, Thursday, March 1.
- We would love to welcome morning literacy volunteers into our classroom from 8:00 to 8:30 each morning. If there is one morning a week that works for you, wonderful, but drop-ins are always welcome, too! Just let me know the day before, please. This role will involve helping to create sight word rings, as well as reading one-on-one with students
Thank you very much for considering! Please email Elysa ([email protected]) or Danielle ([email protected]) if interested to confirm your availability.
Pink Shirt Day
February 28th is Pink Shirt Day. Wear a pink shirt in support of anti-bullying. This year, Pink Shirt Day is encouraging others to combat cyberbullying by thinking twice before posting something negative, and instead using the internet to spread kindness - because we know that Nice Needs No Filter!
