This morning we edited our message, then headed to Atria Retirement Centre to share the love with the senior residents there! We performed 3 songs, crafted beautiful valentines (thank you for your crafting contributions!), and shared books. We spent our afternoon doing our lovely pop art oil pastel hearts!
Friendly reminder that tomorrow is a Friday schedule, with an 11:45 dismissal!

Words of the Week
Each week we will focus on a set of high frequency words that we are using in our poems and morning message. Feel free to practice these and look for them in your own books! This week we are focusing on "King -NG" chunks.

Please and Thank You!
- Thank you so much for sharing family recipes and dishes with your children and with all of the grade one families! We really appreciate your involvement and time spent on this social studies inquiry, and were thrilled so many people could make it to Friday's community event. The students are excited to have each other's recipes in the cookbook we are creating!
- Thank you so much for your Valentine decoration contributions!
- Thank you for returning school Library books for Wednesday (our scheduled weekly exchange time is Wednesday afternoon).

*Hundredth Day of School*
Can you believe February 21 will be the hundredth day of school!? That went fast! We will be concocting 100th Day Trail Mix, among many other hundred-themed activities, to celebrate. We ask that students please bring in a small-sized, non-nut snack item to contribute (roughly 2 or 3 cups should be perfect), as well as an egg carton cut down to 10 cups (serving as a ten frame) if possible. Students will measure out ten pieces of ten different snacks to enjoy a trail mix of exactly 100! Thank you so much for your help and contributions. The students love to be math chefs!
Some ideas for ingredients include, but are not limited to:
- mini pretzels
- pumpkin seeds
- raisins
- dried cranberries or other dried fruits
- banana chips
- goldfish crackers
- larger sized breakfast cereals (like shreddies or corn bran)
- dry roasted beans or peas
- puffed wheat
- corn nuts
- popcorn
- yogurt chips
- bagel crisps
Volunteer Opportunities:
- We would love to welcome morning literacy volunteers into our classroom from 8:00 to 8:30 each morning. If there is one morning a week that works for you, wonderful, but drop-ins are always welcome, too! Just let me know the day before, please. This role will involve helping to create sight word rings, as well as reading one-on-one with students
- We would appreciate 1 more volunteer to join us for a heartwarming (pre)Valentine morning at Atria Retirement Centre on Tuesday, February 13. We will be performing songs, reading, and crafting valentines with the senior residents.
-We are seeking 3 more volunteers to join us for a fun, educational, and outdoorsy day at the Fish Creek Environmental Learning Centre on Thursday, March 1.
Thank you very much for considering! Please email Elysa ([email protected]) or Danielle ([email protected]) if interested to confirm your availability.
