This morning we edited the wacky backward, floating, and uppercase letters in our morning message. We showed ten in as many different ways as we could think of in our math journals. The students are excited to see what Mathley, our math-loving Martian pen pal writes back! (He is studying how Earthlings learn and do math). After recess we began our first monthly writing sample. These will get compiled into a book at the end of the year, and it is amazing to see the grade ones' growth!! Since the grade threes were writing their SLA's in the library, we talked about being 'flexible' and rescheduled our visit for tomorrow! We played a variety of tag and body shape/awareness games in phys ed. In the afternoon we talked about and acted out how different colours make us feel. We read "My Blue is Happy," by Jessica Young, and created maps of our colours in our visual journals. We reviewed our short vowel song and finished the day with free Puzzling Centers -- trying out different ways that materials can fit together. We had fun puzzling with many different things, from building blocks, to shape tiles, to letters!
