This morning we edited our message for missing Flagpole Letters. We reviewed our writing target and journaled about our weekends. We had fun guessing who wrote and drew about what when we played "Mystery Author" to share and shine our work! After recess we showed "one" in as many ways as we could in our math journals. We learned a little rhyme to help us remember how to write the numeral: number one is like a stick, a straight line down is very quick! In phys ed we played, "Captain's Coming!" and had a blast! The students enjoyed a movie during their indoor lunch recess, as it was too cold and rainy to go out. We had a fun body break and "superstorm" with all of our other grade one friends. A superstorm is when all 3 classes come together -- like a super brainstorm! We learned and talked about Terry Fox and the virtues he showed, such as bravery, hope, perseverance, and pride. We began to decorate running shoes with ways we have experienced these qualities, like Terry. The students enjoyed music with Mrs. Dennill, where they learned about high and low pitches with tone blocks. They finished their day with some free reading time and "mystery printing" practice of flagpole letters on each other's backs in a circle.
Mail Pockets
No new notices were sent home.
Please and Thank You
- Please return all school forms, volunteer forms, and coupon book packages (whether ordering or not) at your earliest convenience.
- If you have spare phonebooks at home, please consider sending them in (ideally, two stacked together and wrapped in duct tape, please and thank you!). We use these as a tool for children's seated posture, as many of the students' feet don't yet reach the ground in grade one.
Volunteer Opportunities
- We need at least 1 more volunteer for the Terry Fox Run Friday morning, if possible!
- Folding and assembling pizza boxes as art portfolios (later in the week, or next week)
- Writing student computer ID numbers on headphone bags (would need to be done at school)
Library Books
Our class visits the Learning Commons on Wednesday mornings. If your child would like to exchange their current book for a new one, please return by Wednesday.

In math we practiced writing both the numeral and the printed word "one," and showing it in as many creative ways as we could. Can you think of any things that come in, or show, ONE?
