Can you believe it has already been 100 days of grade one!? This morning after editing the ou and ow chunks in our message, we traded our ones for tens, and our newly ten groups of ten for....a group of 100! We showed ten in as many ways as we could, then examined a hundreds chart for patterns we noticed. We used these patterns to begin filling in and piecing together hundreds chart puzzles that we will be able to use as tools once finished. In phys ed we did "100 Bootcamp," doing ten sets of ten different strengthening exercises. After recess we had a sharing circle and wrote in our journals about what we wish we had 100 of, and what we would not want 100 of. In the afternoon we changed our library books, then continued the 100th day festivities! We listened to The Barenaked Ladies' "If I Had $1,000,000," and looked at prices of popular toys (and pizza, as per student request!) visual journaled about what we would want to buy with $100. We finished our day with an art project, using a checklist to include 10 groups of 10 items in our placemats, and of course creating our much anticipated 100 Things Trailmix! Thank you for your contributions...that was a highlight for the kids!
Friendly reminder -- tomorrow is Olympic Spirit Day. Students can dress up in red and white, or their favourite Canadian gear!

Words of the Week
Each week we will focus on a set of high frequency words that we are using in our poems and morning message. Feel free to practice these and look for them in your own books! This week we are focusing on "ow" and "ou" (pinchy) pattern chunks.

Please and Thank You!
- Thank you so much for your 100th Day trail mix contributions! The students really enjoyed making (and eating) it after measuring out ten groups of ten different items.
- Thank you for returning school Library books for Wednesday (our scheduled weekly exchange time is Wednesday afternoon).
Volunteer Opportunities:
- We would love to welcome morning literacy volunteers into our classroom from 8:00 to 8:30 each morning. If there is one morning a week that works for you, wonderful, but drop-ins are always welcome, too! Just let me know the day before, please. This role will involve helping to create sight word rings, as well as reading one-on-one with students
-We are seeking 2-3 more volunteers to join us for a fun, educational, and outdoorsy day at the Fish Creek Environmental Learning Centre on Thursday, March 1.
Thank you very much for considering! Please email Elysa ([email protected]) or Danielle ([email protected]) if interested to confirm your availability.

Daily Challenge
Today was the 100th day of school! What does 100 look like to you? Choose something you can easily count at home, and estimate a pile of 100. Now, use grouping by 5's or 10's to check. How close were you to 100?
