This frozen, blustery morning, we edited our message for missing /er/, /ur/, and /ir/ 'bossy r' chunks and focused on using subtraction to show 3 in as many ways as we could. We had a fun writing challenge...convince your teacher! The students wrote me in their journals about ideas they think our class should try -- field trips, parties, traditions, etc., and had to persuade why we should try it. We would need a pretty spectacular field trip budget, but there were some wonderful ideas! After recess we finished a round of literacy centers and guided reading, then did our phys ed in the classroom playing active games, since the gym was set up with stages and chairs. We got the chance to try our concert song and narration on the rises in the gym for the first time before lunch. In the afternoon learned a new song, "Ten Buddies" to help us learn the pairs of numbers that make ten. Then we learned and played 2 new "what's missing?" games that help us with our ten buddy facts. We finished the day with a whole school rehearsal of the finale numbers.
Please double check at home tonight that you have your colourful (but solid, no logos or patterns) t-shirt and dark pants ready for later this week! :)
Sight Words (We are working with these in our weekly poem)
We are focusing on "bossy r" and how it turns 'e,' 'i' and 'u' into growling pirate sounds!

Concert Info
We are getting excited for the upcoming school concert performances! The students are working very hard and sounding great! Students are asked to attend their performances wearing a solid-coloured (no prints or logos) yellow, orange, red, or green t-shirt, and dark pants. If you do not have a solid coloured t-shirt, you could always try turning one with a small graphic inside out and that should do the trick. Thank you for helping them to prepare!
Students with last names A-L will be performing Wednesday evening. There will also be an A-L dress rehearsal Wednesday morning at 9:00 am. Students with last names M-Z will be performing Thursday evening, with a dress rehearsal Thursday afternoon at 1:00 pm. Relatives who are not attending the evening performance are welcome to attend the dress rehearsals! :)
"Caring for pets creates caring calm people”
Our pet funds from the popcorn drive have been depleted. Please help us provide for our wonderful school pets by contributing a loonie or a twoonie when you come for our amazing Spring Concert. Any donations are gratefully appreciated. And remember to sign up fro a weekend bunny visit if you have a bunny safe home.
Thank you,

Daily Challenge
We are focusing on 'ten buddies' this week. Knowing these facts will help us apply 'make ten' as a strategy for addition and subtraction! Why is ten an especially important number? When and where would it be useful to make ten easily?
