After editing all of the wacky spelling and backward letters in our morning message, we began a very important writing sample. The students wrote a "Dear Grade 2" piece about what they would like their teachers next year to know about them, and what they are thinking or wondering about grade 2. After recess we enjoyed another round of our shape and space math centers, and played Revenge Restaurant Wars in phys ed again. In the afternoon we worked on our printing and practiced spelling with the 'igh' chunk by playing "Make, Tell, & Show" with play-doh. After some time to finish our beautiful Kandinsky-inspired shape art and writing, we finished the day with our grade 4 buddies. We shared another twisted tale, "Jack and the Baked Bean Stalk," and worked with graphic organizers to plan and map out our own twisted tales.
Friendly reminder: We are visiting the library tomorrow. It is the last chance to sign out a book this year, so please return your books to exchange for a new one!

Please and Thank You / Volunteer Opportunities
***The grade one Urban Community Tour is fast approaching on Tuesday, June 14. We are hoping for 3-5 more volunteers to make it as smooth an experience as possible. It is always a highlight for grade one students and parents, so we hope you can join us! Please email myself or Tara if you can join us -- transportation will be provided.
Milk
Please note that the last day students will receive milk will be tomorrow, June 2.
Library Update
This will be our last week to sign out books -- our class is visiting the library on Thursday. Our school librarian, Mrs. Cornford, asks that all books be returned the week of June 6th to start organizing for the end of year. The first classes in Div I and Div II to return all of their books will receive a reward!
Fort McMurray Book Drive
The families of Beacon Hill School in Fort McMurray have lost everything. Their principal, Garrett Tebay and her librarian, have asked for our support. They would like to help their families rebuild their home libraries. Prince of Wales can help!! Clean out your bookshelves, order some new books from Scholastic or stop by your local bookstore. Please drop off NEW or Gently Used books at the school. Mrs. Tebay will pick them up when she is in Calgary and deliver them. Thank you for your help!

Daily Challenge -- two, in case you missed yesterday and wanted to try!
We learned the 7 traits of living things: they breathe, move, grow, need food/water, react, give off waste, and reproduce. Can you name 4 living things, and 4 non-living things?
We learned a new 'branching' strategy to find the sum of more than two addends. We look for easier mental math sums first, like doubles, near-doubles, or 'ten buddies,' then continue on with fewer numbers to add. If you rolled a 5, 4, 4, and 2, how would you find the sum? What might you add up first?
