This morning we had literacy centers and guided reading, then were detectives for word wall words and rhyming pairs in our "Magic, Super E" poem. In math we translated our repeating patterns into multiple modes, and we continued thinking about needs versus wants. The students did a great job showing their understanding with examples in their visual journals. In the afternoon the students had music, then we had a chance to help less fortunate members of our Calgary community meet their need for food with the Sandwich Foundation. Between all of the grade ones, we made approximately 920 sandwiches for Calgary's working homeless!!! Thank you so much to our wonderful parent volunteers for braving the chaos and the mayonnaise to help the afternoon run smoothly!

Words of the Week
Each week we will focus on a set of high frequency words that we are using in our poems and morning message. Feel free to practice these and look for them in your own books! This week we are focused on "Magic, Super e!"

Volunteer Opportunities:
- We would love to welcome morning literacy volunteers into our classroom from 8:00 to 8:30 each morning. If there is one morning a week that works for you, wonderful, but drop-ins are always welcome, too! Just let me know the day before, please. This role will involve helping to create sight word rings, as well as reading one-on-one with students
Thank you very much for considering! Please email Elysa ([email protected]) or Danielle ([email protected]) if interested to confirm your availability.
Please and Thank You!
- Please consider contributing used magazines for a down-the-road collage project exploring the colour wheel in science.

In math, we learned about translating patterns into other modes. Using my pattern: How many elements are in the repeating core? Can you translate it into 2 other modes?
