The grade ones did a great job editing our missing words in our morning message, and created actions to go with our "All of Us" poem. After an energizing grade one/kindergarten dance party, all of the grade ones got together to watch a short movie reinforcing letter sounds. We celebrated International Dot Day by reading "The Dot," sharing its official theme song, and then creating our own blended chalk pastel dots. Remember, make a mark, and make it matter! The most important thing was to take pride in our work by signing it. In math we played a subitizing partner game with dot arrangements, then finished our day by using back-printing to practice the flagpole letters.

Words of the Week
Each week we will focus on a small set of high frequency words that we are using in our poems and morning message. Often there will be a focus of a specific phonic pattern. Feel free to practice these and look for them in your own books!

Please and Thank You
- Please send a smooth, flat(ish) rock about the size of your child's hand for an art project next Friday.
- Please gather a variety of images to collage the cover of your child's visual journals. These images can represent their favourite things, interests, memories, etc. They could be photos, magazine cut-outs, printed images, words, or drawings. Please send these images to school in a bag or envelope for Wednesday.
"Thinking Gum"
Chewing gum is recommended by occupational therapists as a beneficial tool for children during intensive focus tasks, such as writing. I bring in (sugar-free) "thinking gum" for students to use during focused writing times, and we discuss the rules for using it effectively as a tool. Please let me know via email if you would prefer your child not to partake in this. Thank you!

Daily Challenge
We have been thinking a lot about "I am," and celebrating what makes us each unique. Can you gather some images that represent your favourite things, hobbies, memories, family, and in general who you are? These could be photos, google images, magazine cut outs, drawings, or even words. What are 3 images you would choose to show who you are?
