"Funky," according to the grade ones, because we bust a move at the dance party each week! We edited our morning message for long squealy e chunks: ee, ea, and stand-alone e. The students are getting so good at picking out these spelling chunks, they noticed them all in the new poem/song we learned, "Dance of the Little Leaf!" This morning the students had French -- please check out Mme. Pallesen's blog, which is full of wonderful things the students are learning. We also finished up our sneaky grocery flyer sort, where the students had to sneak in a set of cut-out items that doesn't belong with the other sets they sorted. There were some very creative sorting attributes, from healthy vs. unhealthy, to colour, food group, and even land vs. sea!
Room 7 Communication / Contact
Our classroom coordinator this year is Tara Walter. She will help to coordinate volunteers and contributors for in-school events and field trips. If you would like to be added to her contact list in order to receive class updates with upcoming date reminders and volunteer opportunities, please email Tara at [email protected] with your preferred email contact information.
Mail Pockets
- Book fair notice (went home with oldest and only)
Please and Thank You
- Please consider contributing a pumpkin for the week of October 26-29. (To avoid rotting pumpkins, it is best if they come to school no sooner than this Friday!) We will be exploring estimation and measurement through some very fun pumpkin math! I am hoping to collect 5 or 6 pumpkins, a variety of shapes and sizes. Thanks very much for considering!
- If your Poetry & Songs yellow duo tang is still at home, please return for Monday!
Volunteer Opportunities
- I am seeking morning reading volunteers for Monday through Thursday from 8:30-9:00. The students benefit so much from a little extra one-on-one reading time each week, building confidence and a love of reading! This volunteer time may also include supporting letter-sound review, as well as sharing "just right" books. If interested, please email myself ([email protected]) or Tara ([email protected]) with the weekday(s) that works best for you! Thanks very much!
Library Exchange
This week we will not have library exchange because of the book fair, which our class is scheduled to visit during our usual exchange time, Wednesday morning. You can still return your books!
Upcoming Dates
- Oct. 22-23 – Parent/Teacher Conferences; Scholastic Book Fair!
- Oct. 30 – PD Day – NO SCHOOL
- Nov. 25 – Field Trip – Arts Commons
Daily Challenge
The new poem we learned, "Dance of the Little Leaf," is actually a song, and what's interesting is that the tempo changes in the middle! The grade ones have been exploring tempo in music class as well. Can you think of a song where the tempo speeds up or slows down?
