Highlights of the Day
First of all, a huge THANK YOU for all of your contributions, time, and help with trail mix and shapes! The students LOVED making their 100 Tasty Things Trailmix, and we have combined the leftovers (that managed to stay off the floor) into a mostly healthy class treat to serve as a snack this week.
We started our day with a sharing circle to inspire our journal writing: what we wish we had 100 of, and what we would not want 100 of. We used ten frames and grouping to add up 100 geometric shapes, and after a fun workout of 100 ways to get strong and fit in phys ed, we began turning the shapes into creative, artistic placemats. In the afternoon we learned a new poem, "100 is a Lot," which actually has exactly 100 words! We listened (and squatted!) for rhymes, then spent the rest of the afternoon at PoWer Hour.
For tomorrow, please remember: Wear a pink shirt to spread kindness and stop bullying! Fun Lunch is tomorrow, as is Walking Wednesday and Library exchange.
Sight Words
We have been focusing on "bossy r," and how it turns vowels into pirate sounds!

*Pink Shirt Day*
Hi it’s the give power hour. We want to let you know about an upcoming event. On Wednesday February 22 we are trying to create a sea of pink. In the afternoon the grade 5/6 are hosting an assembly at 1: 15 pm, please remember to wear pink. Stand up to bullies not just on February 22 but all the time. Remember, kindness starts here!"
Idea Lab Club
Mrs.Blanchard will be hosting a club in the Idea Lab on Thursday’s at lunch recess. It will begin next week with a rotating drop-in schedule for specific classes each week. There will be a variety of playful centers, provocations and design challenges available for exploration. No need to sign up, just drop-in on your classroom’s assigned date if you would like to join!

Daily Challenge
Hard to believe 100 days of grade one has already flown by! Can you estimate 100 at home? Using something you have a lot of (cereal, buttons, rice, playing cards...pretty much anything works!), pull out what you think 100 of them looks like. Then, use grouping (maybe by 5's or 10's) to find out what that quantity actually was. How close were you?
