This morning we set out to estimate and count the many pumpkin seeds we had harvested yesterday! At first we estimated that there were maybe 65, 77, or 100 on the tray...then we counted out a group of ten as a "referent." It was such a teeny tiny handful, the students decided they might like to change their estimates to much higher numbers! We learned that 'grouping' the seeds into bundles of ten was a faster, easier way to count, and used this strategy in pairs to total up our seeds. We will add up each of our sub-totals Monday! Next, we used some of the pumpkin we had hollowed out yesterday to explore the culinary arts, baking a tasty pumpkin pie cake. The students did a great job taking turns to add ingredients and mix! After recess we practiced singing our poem, "I'm a Little Pumpkin" with actions, and had literacy centers. Phys ed was a monstrously good time, playing Monster Dance Freeze with Halloween music! In the afternoon the students enjoyed the story "Big Pumpkin" in music, and returned to class for a sing-along with Paulo! We sang and moved, celebrated a classmate's birthday, enjoyed our Halloween treats and pumpkin cake! Thank you very much for all of your contributions and help for our afternoon fun.

If you would like to be added to her contact list in order to receive class updates with upcoming date reminders and volunteer opportunities, please email Tara at [email protected] with your preferred email contact information.
Mail Pockets
- November calendars (light blue) went home with oldest and only
- Home Reading bags went home if returned
Please and Thank You
- Thank you for all the wonderful pumpkins, Halloween snacks, and volunteer help! We are one lucky class!
- Please consider sending in one or two magazines that would have colourful photographs and images for some colour wheel collages!
Volunteer Opportunities
- I am seeking morning reading volunteers for Monday through Thursday from 8:30-9:00. The students benefit so much from a little extra one-on-one reading time each week, building confidence and a love of reading! This volunteer time may also include supporting letter-sound review, as well as sharing "just right" books. If interested, please email myself ([email protected]) or Tara ([email protected]) with the weekday(s) that works best for you! Thanks very much!
- Literacy centers are an important part of developing our reading and writing skills. We do them each day open-curtain with our neighbouring class, so volunteers are much appreciated! Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 11:00 - 11:30, Wednesday 10:30 - 11:00, and Fridays 9:00 - 9:30.
Library Exchange
Wednesday is our library exchange day. Please return your books in order to take out a new one!

Daily Challenge
We dressed up this afternoon and enjoyed treats as part of Halloween tradition. A tradition is something you do every year, or even every week or month, and often includes holidays. Do you have a favourite Halloween tradition?
