To our surprise and delight, our plan worked! A leprechaun did come in overnight (we decided from his footprints he snuck in through a crack in the baseboard!), but instead of messing up our classroom, he gratefully accepted our cake and friendly note. He wrote one back to us answering our questions and thanking us for our kindness...and left us lucky gifts! We used our estimation and grouping skills to find out how many clover charms and chocolate coins he left us. The whole school was lucky enough to enjoy a spectacular Irish dance performance, then we shared a super fun dance party with the grade twos. After Irish dancing in music, we returned to our Double Delicious Chocolate Cake recipe. Yesterday we had doubled the ingredients; today the students showed the steps of our procedure using pictures and writing.
Sight Words
We are reviewing previously learned phonic "chunks" and sight words.
Math Facts
When we play fact fluency games in class, we are currently reviewing doubles, "ten buddies," one more (+1) and one less (-1) facts. Please feel free to review these at home! It can be a fun way to pass time during car rides or waiting in line, and you can use simple items like dice or playing cards to make a game of it. For example, roll the die or take a card -- what is that card's "ten buddy?" What is one more or one less? What is the double of that number? How fast can you go!?
Mail Pockets
- Poetry duotangs went home to share. Some students also chose to bring home their math duotangs to finish up their recipes!
Please and Thank You
