This morning we had many mystery words to solve in our message. We continued our word play after calendar, weather, and hundreds with a word making puzzle, using only the letters in "Father's Day." It was amazing how many smaller words the students formed! For our journals today we discussed and wrote about what we would like our grade two teachers to know about us, what we hope, and what we wonder for next year -- "Dear Grade Two Teacher." Phys ed was a lot of fun outside. We played Frogger with hula hoops that required lots of teamwork, cooperation, and speed! In the afternoon the grade ones got together for Mindful Monday. We shared two great books, "Good News, Bad News," and "No Fair." Finding the connections between the books, we did an activity where we shared things that were bad news or no fair, then "reframed" or "brightened" the perspectives with some good news and gratitude ways of seeing the situations. The students made visual journal pages about this, too. We finished our day comparing 2-D shapes and 3-D objects, hunting for 3-D objects around the room and finding the 2-D shapes 'hidden' in the faces.

Year End Party
Grade ones will be having a year end celebration the afternoon of Wednesday, June 28. We will enjoy a pajama pancake picnic to celebrate all of their hard work and growth this year. Students are welcome to wear pajamas, and while we will supply the pancakes, we would gratefully welcome contributions of toppings and other supplies. This could include fruit, syrup, yogurt, butter, or chocolate chips, as well as paper plates, napkins, or cutlery. Please email Elysa or Melissa if you would like to bring something -- thank you so much for your help!
Parents volunteers are welcome to attend (please let me know if you are coming). The last half hour of our day we will revisit all of our wonderful Grade One memories with a video.
