What a very colourful day we had! This morning we shared "Bear Sees Colours," a beautifully illustrated rhyming book. This inspired our journal writing, where the students wrote pages they might like to add to the book, giving their own examples of where and how they see their favourite colours. I must say I am SO excited to see the students' growth as writers -- they should be very proud of themselves! After recess we began creating our class inquiry chart. The students came up with incredibly interesting "wonder" questions about colour that they would like to explore. Many of them were curious about how colours are made, and how they can mix together... in the afternoon, we did an experiment to find out more! We learned about the 3 primary colours and predicted what new colours each combination would make. We used food colouring on coffee filters to test our predictions. We learned about the colour wheel, and that the colours made by mixing the primary colours in pairs are called secondary colours.
Room 7 Communication / Contact
Our classroom coordinator this year is Tara Walter. She will help to coordinate volunteers and contributors for in-school events and field trips. If you would like to be added to her contact list in order to receive class updates with upcoming date reminders and volunteer opportunities, please email Tara at [email protected] with your preferred email contact information.
Mail Pockets
- no new notices went home, so mail pockets stayed at school
- Home Reading bags went home if returned
Please and Thank You
- Please consider contributing a pumpkin for the week of October 26-29. (To avoid rotting pumpkins, it is best if they come to school no sooner than this Friday!) We will be exploring estimation and measurement through some very fun pumpkin math! I am hoping to collect 5 or 6 pumpkins, a variety of shapes and sizes. Thanks very much for considering!
Volunteer Opportunities
- I am seeking morning reading volunteers for Monday through Thursday from 8:30-9:00. The students benefit so much from a little extra one-on-one reading time each week, building confidence and a love of reading! This volunteer time may also include supporting letter-sound review, as well as sharing "just right" books. If interested, please email myself ([email protected]) or Tara ([email protected]) with the weekday(s) that works best for you! Thanks very much!
Library Exchange
This week we will not have library exchange because of the book fair, which our class is scheduled to visit during our usual exchange time, Wednesday morning. You can still return your books!
Upcoming Dates
- Oct. 22-23 – Parent/Teacher Conferences; Scholastic Book Fair!
- Oct. 30 – PD Day – NO SCHOOL
- Nov. 25 – Field Trip – Arts Commons
Daily Challenge
Today we learned about the 3 primary colours and how they mix together to create the secondary colours. What are the primary colours? What are the secondary colours? Why might it be useful to know how to mix colours?
