This morning we learned some new spelling "chunks" for our Sound City. We learned that 'ou' and 'ow' make a pinching "ow!" sound, and edited mystery words with these chunks in our message. We did a monthly writing sample about our favourite memories of the first 100 days of school, and what we are excited for or wonder about the rest of the year. Really excellent writing from these wonderful young authors! We worked on planning our ideas first in quick pictures, then turning them into more detailed sentences. After recess we explored ou and ow with some fun videos, and played with the '-ig' word family. In phys ed we learned how to play Newcomb ball, a really fun (and more grade one-friendly!) variation of volleyball. In the afternoon we did our first round of new literacy centers, then had music. We read and discussed a book, "Last Stop on Market Street," about needs and wants in a community. We finished our day playing Race to 100 in partners.

Please and Thank You / Volunteer Opportunities
- We are trying out literacy centres a little differently this week, having our neighbouring classes work separately, for smaller groups. Volunteer support would be GREATLY appreciated! Our class is doing literacy centres Monday 1:00 - 1:45, Tuesday 10:45 - 11:30, Wednesday 9:15 - 10:00, Thursday 1:30 - 2:15, and Friday 9:15 - 10:00. Please email me ([email protected]) if any of these times work…but drop-ins are always welcome, too!
- We would love to have morning reading volunteers to share books with students one-on-one, from 8:30-9:00 any day that it works for you!
- Thank you SO much for all of the help and support you consistently offer. I am amazed by (and extremely grateful for) the volunteer response we get in this classroom!
Byblo’s Visit – Feb. 25th
Thank you very much for generously offering to contribute ingredients for Thursday's 9:30 presentation! We have a wide variety of healthy choices coming in. The children are going to have a blast learning about and playing with nutrition.
Feb. 24 - Pink Shirt Day
We encourage everyone to openly express that “Kindness is one size fits all”. We all have the capacity to spread kindness and that is the underlying philosophy behind our anti-bullying movement: a movement we hope lives year round beyond Pink Shirt Day. After all, kindness never goes out of style.
