We learned a new digraph on our Sound City mural -- sh! We edited for /sh/ words in our morning message, and showed 5 in as many ways as we could during calendar and hundreds. After a sharing circle about the best parts of our weekend, we did some journal writing and I was blown away by how much more detail the grade ones included! After recess we body spelled our new word wall words, watched a couple /sh/ videos, and played with the -in word family. After phys ed we started a new round of literacy centers and guided reading. In the afternoon we learned an important concept in math: conservation of number. If we haven't added anything or taken away anything from a group, the number stays the same, even if we rearrange it into different shapes or smaller groups. The students showed different ways in their math journals to rearrange ten cubes into groups and express them as number sentences, while still conserving the total of ten. We reviewed tints and shades in science because we are excited to apply them in an art project this week! Finally, in social studies we had a great conversation about rights and responsibilities. The students reflected on their responsibilities at home and school in their visual journals.
