This morning we edited our message for our new word wall words, focusing on short vowels. We learned a song with sign language letters to help us remember short vowel sounds, and body-spelled our new words to feed them to the word wall monster. In phys ed we learned 3 new tag games, then we used gel bags to start learning how to print "half moon" letters. All of these letters start with a half moon c, and include c, a, d, g, and q. I had a medical appointment in the afternoon, so Mrs. Hamilton came to teach our class. After calendar, weather, hundreds, and 'how many ways,' the students went to music. Then, all of the grade ones had a Mindful Monday superstorm about growth mindset and the power of "yet."

Words of the Week
Each week we will focus on a small set of high frequency words that we are using in our poems and morning message. Often there will be a focus of a specific phonic pattern. Feel free to practice these and look for them in your own books!

Please send these images to school in a bag or envelope for Wednesday.
"Thinking Gum"
Chewing gum is recommended by occupational therapists as a beneficial tool for children during intensive focus tasks, such as writing. I bring in (sugar-free) "thinking gum" for students to use during focused writing times, and we discuss the rules for using it effectively as a tool. Please let me know via email if you would prefer your child not to partake in this. Thank you!

Daily Challenge
We have been thinking a lot about "I am," and celebrating what makes us each unique. Can you gather some images that represent your favourite things, hobbies, memories, family, and in general who you are? These could be photos, google images, magazine cut outs, drawings, or even words. What are 3 images you would choose to show who you are?
