We have a very pumpkin-tastic week ahead of us! We edited our morning message for missing "chunks" and sounds we have learned, and learned a new sound chunk: the sh digraph (which is pretty fun to practice!) We had the Who Do You Tell Program after recess. We learned about different appropriate types of loving touches, including hugs, arms around shoulders, and high fives, as well as how to politely say no if you do not want to be touched. The students had fun changing up our 4-net soccer game in phys ed with challenging ways to travel, including crab walking and hopping! In the afternoon we began our pumpkin math. We learned about estimation, and then estimated and counted the vertical lines (ribs) on our pumpkins using our rekenreks. After music, we read some more of our chapter book, "Dinosaurs Before Dark" (the first in the Magic Tree House series), and shared some of our favourite poems and songs.

Halloween
Next Thursday, the 29th, students are invited to dress in costume for the afternoon. We will be enjoying fun activities, snacks, and a special guest to celebrate Halloween in our classroom!
Volunteer Opportunities
- If you enjoy the messy fun of pumpkins, we will be hollowing out our math exploration pumpkins Wednesday afternoon to collect seeds for estimating. I would very much appreciate 1 or 2 volunteers to help. Please email me if interested!
- I am seeking morning reading volunteers for Monday through Thursday from 8:30-9:00. The students benefit so much from a little extra one-on-one reading time each week, building confidence and a love of reading! This volunteer time may also include supporting letter-sound review, as well as sharing "just right" books. If interested, please email myself ([email protected]) or Tara ([email protected]) with the weekday(s) that works best for you! Thanks very much!
Library Exchange
Wednesday is our library exchange day. Please return your books in order to take out a new one!

Daily Challenge
We learned about estimation in math. Estimating is taking our best guess about how many or how much of something there may be. To give an example, when teachers plan activities, we estimate how much time it will take. When in your everyday life would it be useful to estimate?
