This morning we examined and discussed properties of materials, such as transparent vs. opaque, waterproof vs. absorbent, or hard vs. flexible, to name a few. We talked about why different materials would be useful or not ideal to make different items. From there, we took a look at our available materials when we turn our 2-D blueprints into 3-D virtual models in Minecraft. The students chose their materials, and wrote to explain why they would be good materials for their specific building. After recess we used Google Earth on the laptops. We looked at buildings similar to the ones we are designing from birds eye view and street view perspectives, to help us more accurately draw our blueprints. In phys ed we learned a fun teamwork game called Frogger! In the afternoon we worked on visually representing math doubles, if we were to design our own Doubles Bump game using pictures instead of just numerals. The students continued exploring steady beat in music, then finished the day working on their blueprints and material planning.

Daily Challenge
We talked about properties of materials today. What is a material that would be very useful for your community building, and why? (It doesn't have to be one of the Minecraft materials). What is a material you would not use on your building, and why not?
