This morning we met our new Ed Assistant practicum student, Ms. M. We learned more about parts of a seed, and how it gradually turns into a plant. We shared the book, "The Dandelion Seed," and wrote our own adventures for our seeds in our journals. We also got to plant our germinated seeds in soil. We are so excited to see what happens next! In math we started using cuisenaire rods to help us understand inverse relationships in fact families. We played a fun new game in phys ed to help with our passing skills, "Survivorball!" In the afternoon we had a grade one superstorm to prepare us for tomorrow's field trip. We did a "See, Think, Wonder" exploration of a piece of Stampede public art, and talked about the importance of agriculture. After music, we finished our day with individual and buddy free reading time.

Stampede Park / Grain Academy Field Trip
Tomorrow's field trip will be a fascinating glimpse into our community's rural past! Weather permitting, we will be spending half of our time outside for an art walk. Please ensure your child is dressed for the weather with comfortable walking shoes and hats/sunscreen as necessary. We encourage an easy-to-eat lunch with all necessary utensils, 2 or more snacks, and a leak-proof water bottle. If your child has hay fever or grass allergies, please be aware that we will be around grain and grass samples and let me know about any precautions your child will need to take. Thank you for helping to make it another great day "on the town!"
Fort McMurray Book Drive
The families of Beacon Hill School in Fort McMurray have lost everything. Their principal, Garrett Tebay and her librarian, have asked for our support. They would like to help their families rebuild their home libraries. Prince of Wales can help!! Clean out your bookshelves, order some new books from Scholastic or stop by your local bookstore. Please drop off NEW or Gently Used books at the school. Mrs. Tebay will pick them up when she is in Calgary and deliver them. Thank you for your help!
Please and Thank You / Volunteer Opportunities
We would gratefully welcome 1 more volunteer to join us on a Suburban Community Tour around our school's neighborhood on Monday, June 6.
***The grade one Urban Community Tour will be on Tuesday, June 14. This is a while away, but we are hoping for 8 more volunteers to make it as smooth an experience as possible. It is always a highlight for grade one students and parents, so we hope you can join us!
