Ms. Hillje joined us today to get to know our class some more, as she will be taking over the mat leave position. After editing missing word wall words from our message, we were excited to use grouping to count what the kind leprechaun had left us as a thank you for our cake gift! Then we had literacy centers and guided reading. Since the gym was unavailable, we enjoyed phys ed around the school with the 'ministry of silly walks,' and playing games in our classroom. After recess we enjoyed a new Little Green Peas book and continued working on our Doubles Bump math board games. They are just about ready to play! In the afternoon the grade ones had concert practice in the gym, and we made Iris videos on the computers to let Ms. Hillje learn more about us, and what we want her to know.

Words of the Week
Each week we will focus on a set of high frequency words that we are using in our poems and morning message. Feel free to practice these and look for them in your own books! This week we are focusing on "igh' and comparing it to "ite."

Please and Thank You!
- Please have your child in our classroom (dressed in blue or green tops without logos or images, and dark pants) by around 6:20 for the 6:30 performance on their evening.
- Thank you for returning school Library books for Wednesday (our scheduled weekly exchange time is Wednesday afternoon).
Volunteer Opportunities:
- We would gratefully welcome help with the publishing stage of our Grade One Family Traditions cookbook. Please email Elysa if you are interested in coming in to help assemble and coil-bind books (most likely the week before spring break, timing can be flexible). Thanks!
- We would love to welcome morning literacy volunteers into our classroom from 8:00 to 8:30 each morning. If there is one morning a week that works for you, wonderful, but drop-ins are always welcome, too! Just let me know the day before, please. This role will involve helping to create sight word rings, as well as reading one-on-one with students
Thank you very much for considering! Please email Elysa ([email protected]) or Danielle ([email protected]) if interested to confirm your availability.
