We began the day with a whole school rehearsal of the concert finale! With the performances so near, we will be starting our days like this all of this week. We learned that "bossy r" makes the vowels he comes after sound like a pirate. This week we're focusing on /ar/ and /or/, and we edited for this missing chunks in our message. We shared a wonderful book, "A Squiggle Story," about taking risks and expressing our stories as writers, even if we aren't yet 100% sure which letters or chunks to use. The book inspired us to take charge as authors and create any adventure we pleased in our journals. After recess we reviewed our new literacy centers and "bossy r," then began this round of centers and guided reading after some circus centers in phys ed. In the afternoon the grade ones super-stormed a book for Health, "You Are a Social Detective," which helped us consider expected and unexpected behaviours and reactions. We had a lot of fun mindfully observing and guessing mystery sounds in science, then played "one less" bubblegum bump in math.
Sight Words (We are working with these in our weekly poem)
We are focusing on "bossy r" and how it turns 'a' and 'o' into pirate sounds!

Daily Challenge
In science we began learning about our sense of hearing, how it works, and observing mystery sounds. What is your favourite sound in the world, and why? Can you describe it as an observer like we did this afternoon?
