This morning we edited our message for missing igh/ite words without even using our word wall words! We showed 12 in as many ways as we could, and worked on doubles fact equations in math. In phys ed we went on a yoga and fitness adventure in the desert, then had 2 rounds of literacy centers and guided reading. In the afternoon the students hunted for and colour coded the punctuation in our poetry, and learned about soft and loud in music. After a fun mad libs game with our grade four buddies to help us learn about the difference between adjectives, verbs, and nouns, we had a guest speaker for all of the grade ones in health. Melissa is a nutritionist who came to talk to us about eating a rainbow and trying new foods, since March is nutrition month.

Words of the Week
Each week we will focus on a set of high frequency words that we are using in our poems and morning message. Feel free to practice these and look for them in your own books! This week we are focusing on "igh' and comparing it to "ite."

Please and Thank You!
- Thank you to our wonderful volunteers for joining us at Telus Spark last week! We could not do these fun and exciting days without you!
- Thank you for returning school Library books for Wednesday (our scheduled weekly exchange time is Wednesday afternoon).
Volunteer Opportunities:
- We would gratefully welcome help with the publishing stage of our Grade One Family Traditions cookbook. Please email Elysa if you are interested in coming in to help assemble and coil-bind books (most likely the week before spring break, timing can be flexible). Thanks!
- We would love to welcome morning literacy volunteers into our classroom from 8:00 to 8:30 each morning. If there is one morning a week that works for you, wonderful, but drop-ins are always welcome, too! Just let me know the day before, please. This role will involve helping to create sight word rings, as well as reading one-on-one with students
Thank you very much for considering! Please email Elysa ([email protected]) or Danielle ([email protected]) if interested to confirm your availability.
