We had a great day! We started our morning doing a "See, Think, Wonder" about a Norman Rockwell piece, 'The Jolly Postman." The students chose either to write a story about the artwork, or about their weekends in their journals. Excellent work, grade ones! We shared some of our writing playing Mystery Author during snack. After recess we had the Who Do You Tell program, our second last session. We learned about strong ways to say no -- students were to take home their activity and summary sheet in their backpacks. In the afternoon we made our own tints and shades of primary colours. We are really excited to apply our understanding of tints and shades in a wintery art project tomorrow! In music the students started learning about The Nutcracker and Tchaikovsky! We practiced subitizing dice and ten frames in math, then wrote a thank you letter to Sara, the designer who came to visit us last week. We finished our day with some back-writing printing practice!

Learning Commons Idea Lab
Our Idea Lab is taking shape and we are so very excited to see progress happening daily. We are so excited to get our kids in there and start building, exploring and designing new and innovative things that help solve real-life problems in a creative way. There is a way you can help! On the Idea Lab website, http://powidealab.weebly.com there is a new page that features “Our Wishlist”. This is a spot where you can see what we are in need of to make our Idea Lab a really cool place to learn. Please contact Mme Bergerman if you have any questions about this process or something you’d like to donate. Thanks so much for all you do for us!

Daily Challenge
Tomorrow we will create a piece of art that uses tints and shades of one colour -- we learned that it is called "monochromatic" when artists just use one colour, plus black and white. What colour do you think you would like to use, and why? (It can be any colour, not just primary!)
