This morning we edited our message for /ee/ and /ea/ words, then watched a short video to get us thinking about needs and wants. After a sharing circle, we wrote about things we need and things we want. We focused on adding more details in our sentences by using that special word, "BECAUSE," to explain. We also tried to include at least one 'juicy' word in our writing, and signaled when we heard an interesting, juicy word in our sharing circle. Before and after phys ed we worked on another challenging math problem that has us apply a repeating pattern and use addition or counting strategies. In the afternoon we played Vowel Crosses in small groups to help us think about beginning, middle, and end sounds. In social studies we looked at some images of children in other parts of the world and had a very rich discussion about needs and wants. After reflecting on some needs and wants in their visual journals, the students enjoyed a little free center time for all of their hard work today!
Sight Words (We are working with these in our weekly poems)

We wrote about and discussed needs and wants today, and how they are different. Can you name at least one of your needs, and how you meet it in your family? What is a 'want' that you have in your home that makes life easier, but is not a 'need?'
