This morning we read a very cute rhyming book that helped us think about sorting and patterning attributes: "Sort it Out!" by Barbara Mariconda. We sorted some of our math manipulatives by different attributes, then created a repeating pattern. We learned that the part that repeats is called a 'core.' The students got to use anything in the classroom to then make their own repeating patterns. They showed them in their math journals, and told or wrote about how many elements (objects) are in their repeating core. (See photos below!) After recess we did a fun scrambled words activity, working together to unscramble "oo" words from our word wall and use them in different sentences. After literacy centers we had phys ed and practiced our footwork and body stance to pass the rings. In the afternoon the students had French (please check out Mme. Pallesen's blog each week -- it is awesome! In social studies we learned about rights and responsibilities. We watched a couple short video clips and discussed what these important words mean to us. The students showed and wrote about their responsibilities at home, at school, and to the world in their visual journals.
