This morning we edited our message for bossy r vowel chunks and explored a math manipulative, unifix cubes. We used the cubes to create number lines that help build our number sense around groups of 2, 3, and 5. After recess we continued with literacy centers and practiced badminton rallying in phys ed. In the afternoon the students went on the computers with Mme. Pallesen in French. Then we had science, exploring the wonder that many students had expressed: "How do rainbows appear?" First we reviewed what we had learned about light and transparent and opaque materials, then drew and wrote about what we thought causes rainbows. Then, we watched a video to help us understand how white light is actually made up of the 7 colours of the rainbow, and how different colours of light are absorbed or reflected, depending on the material the light is hitting. We also learned that white light is refracted (gets bent) and breaks into its 7 colours when it hits a prism, like a raindrop. We then made our own rainbow using a glass of water, a mirror, and a flashlight! We finished our day with a visit from Ms. Purkiss to read "What if Everybody Did That."
Reminder...tomorrow is a spirit day AND fun lunch! Dress like one of your teachers (or like you think a teacher would dress)!

Daily Challenge
Rainbows happen when white light gets refracted (bent) inside a prism. It can happen with rain, but we saw that we could make it happen in our own classroom! Where else do you think a rainbow might occur, and why?
