This morning we edited missing short vowels in our world wall words throughout our message. We had a special art visit with Mrs. Ferrari where we learned about primary colours and how they make up the colour wheel. We began a table team art project using the primary colours to overlap and create sun catchers. We had fun practicing our focus and teamwork playing Frogger in phys ed again, and were detectives hunting for word wall words in our "Harvest" poem. The students have gotten really good at body-spelling, and we played Mystery Word to review our new word wall words. In the afternoon the students learned about high and low pitch in music. We shared a cute subitizing book called 'Ten Black Dots' and learned a new poem, "Numbers, Numbers," that helps us know how write numerals probably. In our math journals we practiced writing the numeral and word for 'one,' and showed it as many ways as we could in pictures and symbols. We finished our day with all 3 grade one classes coming together to prepare for tomorrow's field trip.

Words of the Week
Each week we will focus on a small set of high frequency words that we are using in our poems and morning message. Feel free to practice these and look for them in your own books! This week we are focused on short vowel sounds.

GrowCalgary: Wednesday
We are looking forward to a really nice forecast tomorrow! Please send your child dressed for the weather with a jacket/layers (it does get windy at this site!), a sun hat, and possibly facial sunscreen. Please send plenty of water, an easy-to-eat lunch and all necessary utensils. Students and volunteers will want to wear comfy clothes and sturdy, closed-toed shoes that are okay to get dirty. While GrowCalgary has some extras, if possible please send your child with gardening gloves. We will be digging up vegetables!
Please and Thank You
- If you have not already done so, please gather a variety of images to collage the cover of your child's visual journals. These images can represent their favourite things, interests, memories, etc. They could be photos, magazine cut-outs, printed images, words, or drawings. Please send these images to school in a bag or envelope by Thursday.
