This morning we edited the missing words in our message, then hunted for word wall words in our Numbers, Numbers poem. We had fun practicing lowercase "half moon" letters (c, a, d, g, and q) in plates of salt, and brainstorming words that begin with each letter. We learned about word families with a 'hippopotamus' song, then created word family flip books full of '-at' family words. (If we can spell at, then we can spell....). In the afternoon the students had French, then showed 7 in as many ways as they could. We shared the book, "Chrysanthemum," about a little mouse with an extra long (but 'absolutely perfect!' name. We wrote and cut out our names in grid squares, then went on a measure hunt to find things that were of equal, lesser, and greater length to our names. Then, we made a class t-chart to compare how many names had 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 letters.
Sight Words (We are working with these to reinforce short vowels, and in weekly poems)
