This morning we edited our message for missing punctuation (so that we don't sound like run-on robots when we read!) We looked at some grade 1 writing samples (from Alberta Ed) and evaluated them, discussing "stars and wishes." This helped us take a closer look at our own personal goals from our writing target, and I noticed a big jump in the quality and care of these wonderful writers' work today. Go grade ones! After recess we shared a book, "From Seed to Plant," that taught us about different way seeds travel and spread. We wrote, sketched, and measured our first entries in our plant observation logs, and noticed that all of our plants were leaning toward the window! We are doing a little experiment -- we turned the plants the other way to see if they will move again to face the light. In French the students reviewed 'des animal,' then we continued working with inverse relationships (fact families) using our cuisenaire rods. We finished our day with a Health lesson from Ms. Purkiss: 'Baditude vs. Gratitude.'

Fort McMurray Book Drive
The families of Beacon Hill School in Fort McMurray have lost everything. Their principal, Garrett Tebay and her librarian, have asked for our support. They would like to help their families rebuild their home libraries. Prince of Wales can help!! Clean out your bookshelves, order some new books from Scholastic or stop by your local bookstore. Please drop off NEW or Gently Used books at the school. Mrs. Tebay will pick them up when she is in Calgary and deliver them. Thank you for your help!
