After editing our morning message for missing /igh/ and /ite/ chunks, we showed multiple ways to represent, add, and subtract to 8. We highlighted word wall words in our "Zite and My Kite" poem with actions, and had a blast in our second djembe drumming session with Mr. K! We learned several patterns, and had a drum "conversation" with our class split into 2. We went on a fitness adventure to Disneyland in phys ed! After recess we had literacy centers and guided reading, then in math we journaled about things that come in doubles or pairs. In the afternoon the students had music, then it was science time! We learned about "sensory adaptation," where our sense receptors get used to stimuli, and did an experiment with ice cubes to help us understand this. We really enjoyed guessing a mystery liquid in our next experiment, to understand how our 5 senses can work most effectively together. We finished our day with grade one song practice...you are in for a treat at the upcoming concert!

Words of the Week
Each week we will focus on a set of high frequency words that we are using in our poems and morning message. Feel free to practice these and look for them in your own books! This week we are focusing on "igh' and comparing it to "ite."

Please and Thank You!
- Please return Telus Spark field trip forms for tomorrow if you have not already
- If your child accidentally brought home their copy of their family tradition recipe, or did not bring one initially, please send it back by Wednesday to be published in the Grade One Traditions cookbook.
- Please email Mrs. Morin to notify if your family is leaving early for Spring Break and will miss the school concert (so that we can be prepared with narrators and numbers)
- Thank you for returning school Library books for Wednesday (our scheduled weekly exchange time is Wednesday afternoon).
Drumming Residency Sharing Time
The kindergartens, grade ones, and grade fours will benefit from an exciting drumming residency this week! We will be sharing what we have learned Friday morning, and families are welcome to come watch. The sharing time is from 8:00 to 8:45 in the gym.
Volunteer Opportunities:
- We would love to welcome morning literacy volunteers into our classroom from 8:00 to 8:30 each morning. If there is one morning a week that works for you, wonderful, but drop-ins are always welcome, too! Just let me know the day before, please. This role will involve helping to create sight word rings, as well as reading one-on-one with students
Thank you very much for considering! Please email Elysa ([email protected]) or Danielle ([email protected]) if interested to confirm your availability.
