This morning we edited our message for missing /igh/ and /ite/ words. We were word detectives in our poem hunting for word wall words, then we found all the rhymes. In science we learned about how people who are blind use Braille to read with their sense of touch. We made Braille alphabets using lentils! In math we looked at posing our own word problems that use ten buddies to solve, and after learning tennis racquet letter skills in phys ed, we continued with literacy centers and guided reading. In the afternoon
we shared a book to guide our journal editing, "Punctuation Takes a Vacation," and spent some time polishing our writing. Then, it was the last PoWer Hour of the session!

-Rekenreks are an excellent manipulative, visual math tool that help children develop efficient and flexible number sense. The students are excited to craft their own in upcoming weeks! If you have some available, please send in large(ish), flat pieces of cardboard. The fronts and backs of cereal boxes are perfect for this. Thank you for your help with our math crafting!

Screenagers - Growing Up In The Digital Age
With Panel Discussion Following the Movie Screening
Please join us as we learn more about the digital world and how it affects our families. This filmmaker and physician learned that the average child spends 6.5 hours daily on various screens. The film questions what effects this has and explores family struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Our panel of experts will be able to share some best practices with us and lead us in some discussion after the film. (Panel experts are Cybercrime Education Officer Cst Carter Duchesney with Cst Jan Staneke, Psychologist Danelle Spence, and Jr. High School Principal Darrin Whitbread.)
