After editing the missing /ee/ and /ea/ words in our morning message, we did calendar and weather and showed 9 in as many ways as we could. The students searched for rhymes in our poem, then we did literacy centers and guided reading. After recess we worked on our ROY G BIV repeating pattern art, and played Squirrel Nests to practice hockey skills in phys ed. Afterward the students build patterns to trick their teacher with a missing element and a sneaky error element! In the afternoon the students learned how to use Photobooth to create videos in French. Finally, much anticipated, we reviewed all the things we have learned about light and colour, and used that to help us make a rainbow! We know now that white light is made up of all the colours in the spectrum, and when it passes through a prism (which can be a drop of water!), the light bends and breaks up into its 7 colours. We used a big glass of water with an angled mirror in it as a prism to reflect a rainbow onto the smartboard and ceiling. The students decided if their guesses of how to make a rainbow were confirmations or misconceptions, and showed what they learned.

Daily Challenge
White light can produce a rainbow when it passes through and is refracted (bends) by a prism. What things can act as a prism? Where have you seen rainbows occur, other than during or after rain?
