This morning we "read and fed" our ow/ou words to the word wall, then edited our morning message for them without peeking! We were treated to a lovely guitar performance by one of our grade 3/4 buddies, then did our last two rounds of literacy centers and guided reading. We had a dance party in phys ed since we are missing our Friday and we really needed to burn some excited-for-Easter energy! In science the grade one classes got together to learn about how litter affects and harms animals. This made us excited to help the creatures in our community with next week's litter clean-up.
Happy Easter! Looking forward to seeing you on Monday. The grade ones are excited to run the show and share their learning!

Litter Clean-Up (April 20)
We are looking forward to helping the animals and environment in our community with our pre-Earth Day Litter Cleanup next Thursday! We will provide bags and litter sticks, but ask that students come in comfortable clothes that are okay to get messy that day. If you have gardening gloves to send, that would be great! Thank you!
Please and Thank You
-Grade One is helping care for their community with a pre-Earth Day Litter Cleanup on Thursday, April 20th at 1:30. We would appreciate 1 or 2 more volunteers to join us for this.
- Grade One will enjoy observing spring seasonal changes on our next Ridge Walk Thursday, May 4 at 1:30.
- Our class will visit the Calgary Drop-In Centre on Thursday, May 11 to learn about how our city supports its vulnerable citizens, and to volunteer sorting donations. We will also enjoy exploring nearby Patrick's Island via the Riverwalk that afternoon. We would appreciate 5 volunteers to come with us.
Thank you for being so giving of your time! Please email Elysa or myself if you are interested and available for any of these experiences.
Math Facts
When we play fact fluency games in class, we are currently reviewing doubles, "ten buddies," one more (+1) and one less (-1) facts. Please feel free to review these at home! It can be a fun way to pass time during car rides or waiting in line, and you can use simple items like dice or playing cards to make a game of it. For example, roll the die or take a card -- what is that card's "ten buddy?" What is one more or one less? What is the double of that number? How fast can you go!?
Communities helping Communities
Grade 2’s have been learning about communities across Canada. As we explored ways of life in the Arctic, we were shocked to learn that a fire had devastated the community school in Kugaaruk, Nunavut. Not just a center for education, the school served as the community center with the arena, breakfast and lunch program, and special events. Grade 2’s at Prince of Wales have banded together, and following the design thinking process, explored how to best support this community.
To support Kugaaruk School, Grade 2’s will host Intermural Floor Hockey in the gym from April 10th- April 20th from12:00-12:30PM and welcome all donations (suggested donation is $2). Ms. Konno will be creating heartfelt cards with students in Room 9. The Grade 2’s also welcome cash donations in support of the community of Kugaaruk. **Grade one intermural hockey is on Monday, April 10th.**
Cash donations will be accepted from April 3rd to April 21st. If you have any questions, please email [email protected]. We thank you in advance for your support!
