After editing our morning message for the missing word wall words, we hunted for punctuation in our poem. Then, inspired by the Sesame Street / Will-I-Am song, "What I Am," the students wrote and drew about their character strengths in their journals. After we played Mystery Author to try and guess who wrote what by listening. After recess we practiced printing our flagpole letters, this time with a pencil and paper, and enjoying play-doh to create and guess things that began with each letter. In phys ed we played Clean Up Your Backyard (a very fun non-targeting version of dodgeball) -- we had a lot of energy today!! The grade ones did an excellent job of their first fire drill during French, staying very calm and quiet. In math we learned how to neatly print 4 (down and over and down some more, that's the way to make a 4!), and represented it in as many ways as we could. We took part in International Dot Day, celebrating creativity and courage. We read "The Dot," and then decorated our reading corner by creating our own chalk pastel dots. As the song says, "Make your mark. All you have to do is start...and see where it takes you!"

Daily Challenge
This week we have learned and practiced the 'flagpole' family of lowercase letters. We always start from the top (of either the 'turtle' or 'giraffe' line), because it's more fun to slide down a flagpole than climb up! The flagpole letters are: l, i, t, j, and k.
Can you teach your family to print them? Which is your favourite to print and why?
