We began our morning with the last library book exchange of the year. If we are one of the first classes to return our books next week, we could win a prize from Mrs. Cornford! The students also had some tech time to explore new shape, subtraction, and grouping activities on the blog. After recess we continued with our shape, space, and measurement centres, and played Lifeguard Tag in Phys Ed. In the afternoon we had music, then thought and wrote about examples of the 7 traits of living things in science. We finished our day with a grade one 'superstorm' to discuss public art in preparation for Monday's field trip.
Mail Pockets
No new mail went home today, but planted seeds did! Use what you know about meeting your plant's needs and enjoy at home!
Suburban Community Tour (Monday)
Monday afternoon (1:00), the grade ones will be going on a neighbourhood walk to explore the public art in our suburban community. Please be prepared for the hot, sunny forecast with a snack, leak-proof water bottle, sun hats, sunscreen, and comfortable walking shoes. Students will be given time to apply their sunscreen over the noon hour, but teachers have been reminded that CBE policy does not allow us apply students for children, nor can they share. Please send your child with their own. Thank you!
Please and Thank You / Volunteer Opportunities
***The grade one Urban Community Tour is fast approaching on Tuesday, June 14. We are hoping for 3-5 more volunteers to make it as smooth an experience as possible. It is always a highlight for grade one students and parents, so we hope you can join us! Please email myself or Tara if you can join us -- transportation will be provided.
Bike to School Day
Calgary's Bike to School Day is on Tuesday, June 7. Extra staff will be outside in the morning to help students lock up their bikes.
Library Update
This was our last week to sign out books. Our school librarian, Mrs. Cornford, asks that all books be returned the week of June 6th to start organizing for the end of year. The first classes in Div I and Div II to return all of their books will receive a reward!
Fort McMurray Book Drive
The families of Beacon Hill School in Fort McMurray have lost everything. Their principal, Garrett Tebay and her librarian, have asked for our support. They would like to help their families rebuild their home libraries. Prince of Wales can help!! Clean out your bookshelves, order some new books from Scholastic or stop by your local bookstore. Please drop off NEW or Gently Used books at the school. Mrs. Tebay will pick them up when she is in Calgary and deliver them. Thank you for your help!
