Today was International Character Day! Our school celebrated by having book swaps, where twice in the day teachers shared a character trait themed book with another class. Our students got to read The Golden Rule with Mrs. McKay, and Tacky the Penguin with Ms. Mosher. In the morning we also hunted for punctuation in our poem, and revisited the "Kindness is Contagious" video to prompt our journal writing. We practiced back-writing our half-moon letters, then really enjoyed getting creative with various gym equipment at phys ed 'play stations.' In math we learned how to print a 9, and showed it as many ways as we could. We also used an interactive hundreds chart to help us understand skip counting. Toward the end of our day, we shared the book, The Way I Act, which illustrates a number of character traits, then passed Caring Carrot around a sharing circle to share what character traits in ourselves we are proud of. I have to say how much I am enjoying these compassionate, responsible, friendly, and helpful grade ones! :)

Grow Calgary Field Trip
We are excited for our upcoming field trip to the Grow Calgary urban farm! The students will be helping harvest fresh produce to feed hungry Calgarians through various compassionate food agencies, including the Food Bank, Inn From the Cold, and the Calgary Drop-In Center. So far, the forecast is looking quite lovely for Tuesday (yay!), and it seems we will need sunscreen instead of raincoats, but please prepare for rain or shine. Students will need comfortable clothes that are okay getting dirty, layers to provide options for fluctuating temperatures, and sturdy shoes. While Grow Calgary has extra pairs of gardening gloves, volunteers are encouraged to bring their own to use. Please pack a litter-free lunch and snacks if possible, as well as a water bottle.
