This morning we exchanged our library books, then took a look on Google Earth at a familiar community in Calgary, McKenzie Towne. We observed the types of businesses, roads, and signs to help us visualize the community we are planning and designing. From there, we drew the initial designs of our community structures. After recess, we had another grade one superstorm to learn about how we will use MinecraftEdu for a future step in our design and building project. We are very excited for this tool! The students enjoyed playing a full game of netball in phys ed. In music the students played in groups of 3 to practice keeping the steady beat. After literacy centers, we finished up our urban/rural optical illusion art, and enjoyed some math games.

Planning for 2016-17 (School Council Meeting Tonight!)
We are just starting the process of organizing for the 2016-17 school year. This is a long process that starts with the system budget, which we received yesterday. We have worked closely as a staff to come up with some possible scenarios that we can afford given our funding and our projected student enrollment. We can have anything we want but we can’t have everything we want! At the School Council meeting Thursday, April 14 we will be sharing possible scenarios and seeking feedback about what parents value (French in Div I, Power Hour, Class Size, Maintaining straight grades (vs. blended grades), Idea Lab). If you would like to have input, please join us at the Council Meeting. Due to tight timelines this will be the only forum to provide input.
Student-Led Conferences
Student led conferences will be held on April 21 and 22.
System opens April 11th - Please use the My CBE Account to book a 15 minute interview. Plan to spend 30 minutes before or after your scheduled time with your child leading you through their learning.
April 21st 4:00pm to 8:00pm
April 22nd 8:00am to 12:30pm – No School

Daily Challenge
We have been working with "ow" and "oa" as long o sounds this week. We know that 'ow' is usually (but not always!) at the end of a word, and 'oa' is more often in the middle or beginning. Can you create a sentence that uses as many oa and ow words as possible?
