This morning we edited our message for missing word wall words, and hunted for punctuation in our 'Harvest' poem. We used 2 new tools to help us with our writing this morning -- our personal word wall "offices," and "thinking gum." The students used these tools respectfully and effectively and did a lovely job writing about what they wonder about Grow Calgary. After recess we tried out our bounce printing letters with a pencil and paper, playing Mystery Play-Doh to review the sounds each letter makes. We went adventure running for Terry Fox in phys ed -- what a beautiful day! In the afternoon the students learned action words in French, then we got to meet our grade 3/4 buddies in Ms. Mosher's room! We shared favourite books with them, and we're very excited to learn and play together this year. We finished our day with a grade one superstorm to learn about Terry Fox. We learned the Terry Fox song, then decorated our own footprints to create a class banner for tomorrow's run.
***Please remember to show your spirit in red and/or white tomorrow, dressed for the weather, sporting crazy hair ("Do the Do!), and comfy running shoes! Please bring your "I am running for" sticker with you.

"Do the Do for Terry"
One way our entire school community can show their support for the students involved in the head shave is to "Do the Do". Students are invited to choose a DO that makes their mark, crazy hair day!
Toonies for Terry Challenge
We are collecting Toonies for Terry (any donation will be accepted, spare change). Great news -- we raised over $800, surpassing our school goal! Looks like the teachers will be sporting crazy hair, too!
Exciting News!

Great books for sale in the Learning Commons!
We will be hosting a Scholastic book fair October 8&9 during Meet the Teacher. Students will have an opportunity to view the books during the week. Notices and fliers will be coming home today.
Thinking Gum
As recommended by occupational therapists, I like to use "thinking gum" as a tool in the classroom when students are doing sustained writing. Chewing gum provides sensory input, as well as 'heavy work' for the jaw, which helps students focus and maintain attention. I bring in sugar-free gum. We reinforce clear guidelines about how and when the gum can be an effective tool. Please email me if you do not want your child to use gum as a tool. Students are also welcome to bring in their own gum. Thank you!
