This morning we challenged ourselves to puzzle the full missing words from our morning message, using the reading strategy: "What would sound right and make sense?" After re-watching the catchy song "The Power of Yet," we had a sharing circle and wrote in our journals about things we can do, and things we can't do yet but are excited to learn! Phys ed was a lot of fun with cooperation-building parachute games, then the grade ones got together to share a book, "Stolen Words," to learn about why we are observing Orange Shirt Day tomorrow. We learned about how First Nations children were taken away from their families and forced to learn a different language and culture in residential schools. Much anticipated, we went to Room 10 for a bunny visit and a social story with Ms. Purkiss called "What if Everybody Did That?" In the afternoon we started using a hundreds chart to try out addition sentences for "How Many Ways," and played a math game called Race to 20 with our grade 4 buddies. After practicing pitch in music class, we shared a great math book called "Sort it Out." We began looking at grocery store flyers for groups and sorting rules we could make based on different attributes.

Words of the Week
Each week we will focus on a small set of high frequency words that we are using in our poems and morning message. Feel free to practice these and look for them in your own books! This week we are focused on short vowel sounds.
