After editing our morning message for squealy long e and 'th' chunks, we practiced printing our mountain letters in salt with our fingers! We had fun using our play-doh to create things that began with each letter, and giving clues to help our classmates guess them. We learned a new math game, "Guess What," which is kind of like the boxed game Guess Who! We have to ask questions and give clues to guess the ten frame arrangement our partner is hiding on the other side of the wall. It helps us understand "greater and less," and adding numbers up to ten. We began a chapter book read-aloud, "The Magic Treehouse: Dinosaurs Before Dark." It is already so suspenseful! After a round of literacy centers, we had fun playing a new version of the Squirrels and Nuts game in phys ed, where we practice goaltending our nests! In the afternoon the students began learning the national anthem "en Francais" in French class, as well as some catchy French Halloween songs! The students did a beautiful job reading, singing, and acting out our "Dance of the Little Leaf" poem, which led us to a related art project. We finished our day using what we learned yesterday about mixing colours to create gorgeous multicoloured leaves...using only the 3 primary colours!
Remember -- fun lunch tomorrow!
Room 7 Communication / Contact
Our classroom coordinator this year is Tara Walter. She will help to coordinate volunteers and contributors for in-school events and field trips. If you would like to be added to her contact list in order to receive class updates with upcoming date reminders and volunteer opportunities, please email Tara at [email protected] with your preferred email contact information.
Mail Pockets
- no new notices went home, so mail pockets stayed at school
- Home Reading bags went home if returned
Please and Thank You
- Please consider contributing a pumpkin for the week of October 26-29. (To avoid rotting pumpkins, it is best if they come to school no sooner than this Friday!) We will be exploring estimation and measurement through some very fun pumpkin math! Thank you to those who have already offered! I am hoping to collect at least 2 or 3 more pumpkins, a variety of shapes and sizes.
Volunteer Opportunities
- I am seeking morning reading volunteers for Monday through Thursday from 8:30-9:00. The students benefit so much from a little extra one-on-one reading time each week, building confidence and a love of reading! This volunteer time may also include supporting letter-sound review, as well as sharing "just right" books. If interested, please email myself ([email protected]) or Tara ([email protected]) with the weekday(s) that works best for you! Thanks very much!
Library Exchange
This week we will not have library exchange because of the book fair, which our class is scheduled to visit during our usual exchange time, Wednesday morning. You can still return your books!
Upcoming Dates
- Oct. 22-23 – Parent/Teacher Conferences; Scholastic Book Fair!
- Oct. 30 – PD Day – NO SCHOOL
- Nov. 25 – Field Trip – Arts Commons
Daily Challenge
When we practiced and choreographed "Dance of the Little Leaf," we looked for action words like "whirling, twirling, falling, dancing and floating" and tried to brainstorm some more of our own. What other action words can you think of that leaves do?
