Today was packed, so it flew by! In the morning we visited the Atria Retirement Home, and it was a wonderful experience for us as well as the senior residents. We crafted exquisite (and, as you might imagine, very bling-y) Valentine cards, and the students were excited to gift them to the new older friends they made. We performed our concert pieces and a poem, "I Love You More Than Applesauce," and shared picture books with the residents, too. Thank you so much to our fabulous crew of volunteers for making the morning go so smoothly! When we got back to school we decorated our Valentine mail bags. In the afternoon the students had French -- check out the booklet Mme. Pallesen sent home at the students' request, so they can practice at home, too! We delivered our Valentine cards and enjoyed a healthy, yummy snack (thank you for your contributions!) before PoWer Hour.
Just a reminder that tomorrow we finally get to exchange our library books.
Happy Valentine's Day!
Sight Words (We are working with these in our weekly poem)
We have been focusing on "bossy r," and how it turns vowels into pirate sounds!

*Hundredth Day of School*
Can you believe February 21 will be the hundredth day of school!? That went fast! We will be concocting 100th Day Trail Mix, among many other hundred-themed activities, to celebrate. We ask that students please bring in a small-sized, non-nut snack item to contribute (roughly 2 or 3 cups should be perfect), as well as an egg carton cut down to 10 cups (serving as a ten frame) if possible. Students will measure out ten pieces of ten different snacks to enjoy a trail mix of exactly 100! Thank you so much for your help and contributions. The students love to be math chefs!
Some ideas for ingredients include, but are not limited to:
- mini pretzels
- pumpkin seeds
- raisins
- dried cranberries or other dried fruits
- banana chips
- goldfish crackers
- larger sized breakfast cereals (like shreddies or corn bran)
- dry roasted beans or peas
