What a wonderful sea of kindness pink in our school today! After editing a very wacky morning message for backward letters and mixed up pinchy 'ou/ow' chunks, we continued with literacy centers and exchanged our library books. After recess we filled our class inquiry chart with questions we wonder about our senses, and how they work. The grade ones had a really interesting discussion about which sense they think they used the most, and why they think so. We enjoyed one of our last days of Newcomb Ball in phys ed, practicing eye contact and communication with our teammates. In the afternoon we had a word work challenge: could the students (in teams of 2) find, read, and write down all 10 of the new word wall words secretly added over the weekend. It was tricky!! In math we shared a very cute book, "The Three Little Pigs Count to 100," and used a 100 dot array to help us visualize the numbers in the story. After we discussed and watched a short video on community helpers in social studies, we finished our day celebrating a friend's birthday!
Tomorrow is our exciting Byblos Pita Nutrition program! Thank you so much for your contributions and help.
Mail Pockets
- No new notices went home, so mail pockets remained at school.
Please and Thank You / Volunteer Opportunities
- We are trying out literacy centres a little differently this week, having our neighbouring classes work separately, for smaller groups. Volunteer support would be GREATLY appreciated! Our class is doing literacy centres Thursday 1:30 - 2:15, and Friday 9:15 - 10:00. Please email me ([email protected]) if any of these times work…but drop-ins are always welcome, too!
- We would love to have morning reading volunteers to share books with students one-on-one, from 8:30-9:00 any day that it works for you!
- Thank you SO much for all of the help and support you consistently offer. I am amazed by (and extremely grateful for) the volunteer response we get in this classroom!
Byblo’s Visit – Feb. 25th
Thank you very much for generously offering to contribute ingredients for Thursday's 9:30 presentation! We have a wide variety of healthy choices coming in. The children are going to have a blast learning about and playing with nutrition.
Parkland Winterfest
The Parkland Community Association will be hosting a Winterfest Celebration this Saturday, February 27th from 12-2PM. Bring the whole family down for some great activities including mini golf, petting zoo, crafts, games, and face painting. This is a free event that is being offered by the Parkland Community Association, and you do not have to be a Parkland resident to attend! While you’re there, come in and register your child for U6-U12 soccer. We will also be accepting non-perishable items for the local food bank.
FYI - Soccer is also open to nonresidents of Parkland.
http://www.parklandcommunityassociation.org/contact-us.html This link is to the website, but I don’t think it has info about Winterfest, so I just included the PCA address and contact info…
Hope to see you there!
