This morning we edited our very wacky Wednesday message for misspelled ou/ow words, then got our spring photos taken. We had a blast creating Easter egg art with our grade 3/4 buddies, then exchanged our library books. After continuing our literacy centers and guided reading, we enjoyed cooperative parachute games in phys ed. Then, sadly it was time to wish our wonderful student teacher, Mrs. Rand, farewell. We were excited to present her with one of our favourite books, "Ish," signed by all of the students. In the afternoon the students had music, then we spent the rest of the day on math. We practiced some subtraction stories on our rekenreks, then applied that to our Power Market nutrition challenge. This time the students had to figure out how much change they got back from their nutritious shopping. We finished the day sharing some wacky Wednesday jokes! :)

Math Facts
When we play fact fluency games in class, we are currently reviewing doubles, "ten buddies," one more (+1) and one less (-1) facts. Please feel free to review these at home! It can be a fun way to pass time during car rides or waiting in line, and you can use simple items like dice or playing cards to make a game of it. For example, roll the die or take a card -- what is that card's "ten buddy?" What is one more or one less? What is the double of that number? How fast can you go!?
Mail Pockets
- ***Staff Appreciation Week notices and colouring coins went home with oldest and only, however I realized I made a mistake -- colouring coins were already included with the notice booklet. Students who are not 'oldest and only' will get some to bring home tomorrow!
- Scholastic flyers went home. Please return by Friday, April 21 if wanting to order.
- PoWer Hour slips were in my mailbox and will be going home tomorrow!
Please and Thank You
-Grade One is helping care for their community with a pre-Earth Day Litter Cleanup on Tuesday, April 20th at 1:30. We would appreciate 1 or 2 more volunteers to join us for this.
- Grade One will enjoy observing spring seasonal changes on our next Ridge Walk Thursday, May 4 at 1:30.
- Our class will visit the Calgary Drop-In Centre on Thursday, May 11 to learn about how our city supports its vulnerable citizens, and to volunteer sorting donations. We will also enjoy exploring nearby Patrick's Island via the Riverwalk that afternoon. We would appreciate 5 volunteers to come with us.
Thank you for being so giving of your time! Please email Elysa or myself if you are interested and available for any of these experiences.
Communities helping Communities
Grade 2’s have been learning about communities across Canada. As we explored ways of life in the Arctic, we were shocked to learn that a fire had devastated the community school in Kugaaruk, Nunavut. Not just a center for education, the school served as the community center with the arena, breakfast and lunch program, and special events. Grade 2’s at Prince of Wales have banded together, and following the design thinking process, explored how to best support this community.
To support Kugaaruk School, Grade 2’s will host Intermural Floor Hockey in the gym from April 10th- April 20th from12:00-12:30PM and welcome all donations (suggested donation is $2). Ms. Konno will be creating heartfelt cards with students in Room 9. The Grade 2’s also welcome cash donations in support of the community of Kugaaruk. **Grade one intermural hockey is on Monday, April 10th.**
Cash donations will be accepted from April 3rd to April 21st. If you have any questions, please email [email protected]. We thank you in advance for your support!
