Today was a big, exciting day! After editing our very wacky morning message, we did some math work with our snap cubes, 'acting out' the doubles song, and practicing our efficiency with a snap cube number line. We exchanged our library books and enjoyed some time to share books. After snack we worked on our drama piece for our Celebration of Learning, and practiced our songs with a little extra time in the music room! We learned new game in phys ed, "Yoshi," which the whole school will be playing at recess as an option. The afternoon was...building time!!! Many thanks to our volunteers, both adult and older buddy, for their invaluable help! The students got a fantastic start on their community buildings and we are looking forward to adding more details and artistic touches, too. We finished the day cutting our Double Delicious cake (it was pretty cool to see our math problem solutions come to life), and shared it with our grade 4 buddies for being so helpful.

Please and Thank You / Volunteer Opportunities
The grade ones have been doing a wonderful job planning a community. They are very excited to turn their ideas and designs into 3-D models! We will be building this week and next in the Idea Lab and our classroom. We have many materials, but if your child has their heart set on a specific material or items, please feel free to send them from home. Thank you!
1) Students will continue building their community models in the Idea Lab on Tuesday, May 3 from 9:45 to 11:00. We would very much appreciate volunteer support during these exciting, engaging, and bustling times!
2) We are looking for 3 or 4 volunteers to join us on a lovely and relaxing walk to the Ridge on Wednesday, May 4 at 1:15 pm, to observe seasonal changes of spring.
3) We are also looking for 2 more volunteers to accompany our full day field trip on Tuesday, May 17 to the Grain Academy and Stampede Grounds to learn about our community's rural past.
4) We would gratefully welcome 4 volunteers to join us on a Suburban Community Tour around our school's neighborhood on Monday, June 6.
5) The grade one Urban Community Tour will be on Tuesday, June 14. This is a while away, but we are hoping for 10-12 volunteers to make it as smooth an experience as possible. It is always a highlight for grade one students and parents, so we hope you can join us!
Celebration of Learning: Thursday, May 5
The grade ones will be excited to share their community building project from 6 - 6:30, and a performance from 6:30(ish) to 7:00(ish). They are encouraged to dress up as a favourite community helper for the evening!
