Picture day! After editing our wacky message for mixed-up vowels, we went down to take our photos. The students looked very spiffy. We then hunted for this week's word wall words in our poem, and exchanged our library books. After recess we practiced printing our lowercase bounce letters in plates of salt, and had a sharing circle about yesterday's Grow Calgary experience. We had a jungle yoga adventure in phys ed! In the afternoon the students had music, then reflected in their visual journals about yesterday's experience. We finished our day talking about sorting in math, and began sorting the items from our Grow Calgary bucket into groups at the carpet.
Sight Words (We are working with these to reinforce short vowels, and in weekly poems)

Thinking Gum
As recommended by occupational therapists, I like to use "thinking gum" as a tool in the classroom when students are doing sustained writing. Chewing gum provides sensory input, as well as 'heavy work' for the jaw, which helps students focus and maintain attention. I bring in sugar-free gum. We reinforce clear guidelines about how and when the gum can be an effective tool. Please email me if you do not want your child to use gum as a tool. Students are also welcome to bring in their own gum. Thank you!

Toonies for Terry Challenge
We are collecting Toonies for Terry (any donation will be accepted, spare change). IF by Thursday after school we have raised $500, STAFF WILL FLAUNT THEIR OWN CRAZY HAIR DO and will "Do the Do for Terry" as well! Bring in your toonies!

Daily Challenge
We are working on the 'bounce' letters in our lowercase printing this week. They are n, m, r, b, h, and p. They all start by dropping a ball, which bounces, pops up, or rolls back to us. Which is your favourite letter to print, and why? Which one is the trickiest?
