This morning grade one had a special Skype conference with Justin Myles, a world explorer and advocate for children's right to education. We edited the wacky /sh/ words in our morning message, and used our whiteboards to practice subtraction from 11 in both pictures and number sentences. In poetry we used our bodies to highlight /sh/ words... it was tiring! After recess we looked at a rubric with our new writing expectations, and set goals to make our writing even stronger! We shared the beautiful book, "If Kids Ran the World," and wrote about what we wish for all children. I am so proud of the grade ones for pushing themselves as writers! In phys ed we are working on fitness training -- we had fun playing a fitness edition of "restaurant wars." In the afternoon we exchanged our library books and played a partner math game to practice our subitizing automaticity. We finished our day with literacy centers.

Words of the Week
Each week we will focus on a set of high frequency words that we are using in our poems and morning message. Feel free to practice these and look for them in your own books! This week we are focused on the /sh/ digraph.

Volunteer Opportunities:
- We would love to welcome morning literacy volunteers into our classroom from 8:00 to 8:30 each morning. If there is one morning a week that works for you, wonderful, but drop-ins are always welcome, too! Just let me know the day before, please. This role will involve helping to create sight word rings, as well as reading one-on-one with students
Thank you very much for considering! Please email Elysa ([email protected]) or Danielle ([email protected]) if interested to confirm your availability.
Please and Thank You!
- Thank you for sending in magazines for our upcoming collaged colour wheels in science!
