This morning we had a great discussion about changes from the past to present. We looked at some of our artifact photos from yesterday's field trips, as well as the Glenbow's online Blackfoot exhibit to learn about how Blackfoot families live differently today than in the past. We were very intrigued to learn more about homesteaders and the struggles they faced when settling the land in our community over 100 years ago! After exchanging our library books, we worked more with inverse relationships (fact families) in math, and learned a new math game to help us practice. We played Survivorball again in phys ed -- so fun! We are working on incorporating strategies, like spreading out to pass more efficiently. In the afternoon we did printing practice and play-doh word work with long u chunks (oo, u-e, and ew), as well as some free reading time. Congratulations to all of the room 7 students -- EVERY child in our class got a happy note in music today because they were such superstars! :)
Mail Pockets
The last Scholastic flyers of the year went home today. Please return by Tuesday if interested in ordering.
Fort McMurray Book Drive
The families of Beacon Hill School in Fort McMurray have lost everything. Their principal, Garrett Tebay and her librarian, have asked for our support. They would like to help their families rebuild their home libraries. Prince of Wales can help!! Clean out your bookshelves, order some new books from Scholastic or stop by your local bookstore. Please drop off NEW or Gently Used books at the school. Mrs. Tebay will pick them up when she is in Calgary and deliver them. Thank you for your help!
Please and Thank You / Volunteer Opportunities
We would gratefully welcome 1 more volunteer to join us on a Suburban Community Tour around our school's neighborhood on Monday, June 6.
***The grade one Urban Community Tour will be on Tuesday, June 14. This is a while away, but we are hoping for 8 more volunteers to make it as smooth an experience as possible. It is always a highlight for grade one students and parents, so we hope you can join us!
